Christmas in the City December 5, 6:00-9:00 pm Join us in Downtown Bessemer City as we celebrate the Christmas season. The Christmas celebration will feature food vendors, carriage rides, train rides for children and live music. Special guest Santa Claus will also visit the event, so bring the camera and snap a photo of Santa with your children. Local businesses will be open to serve refreshments. Change in Declaration of Water Shortage

PRESS RELEASE Change in Declaration of Water Shortage On Tuesday October 14, 2008, after consultation with the Public Utilities Director, the City Manager of Bessemer City issued a change in Declaration of Water Shortage from a stage III to a Stage I for the City of Bessemer City because of significant rainfall in this area. City Manager Allan Farris is asking for voluntary conservation using the Stage 1 restriction guidelines. This will be effective 10/15/08. According to section 52.32 of the Bessemer City Code of Ordinances, Stage 1 Guidelines asks the citizens of Bessemer City to take conservation measures and voluntarily limit water usage by adhering to the following conditions: 1.  Limit car washing to the minimum 2.  Limit lawn and garden watering to that which is necessary for plants to survive. 3.  Cease washing down outside areas such as sidewalks, patios, parking lots, service bays or aprons, and the like. 4.  Limit watering shrubbery to the minimum ...

City Council Meetings The Bessemer City Council meets in regularly-scheduled session at 7:00 PM on the second Monday night of each month. Meetings are held in the Council Chambers of the City Hall Facility located at 132 W. Virginia Avenue, Bessemer City, North Carolina An agenda is prepared for each meeting and generally available in the office of the City Clerk by 4:00 PM the Thursday preceding the scheduled meeting. Colvin Fills City Council Ward 4 Vacancy

Melanie Colvin was unanimously appointed by the Bessemer City Council to fill the Ward 4 vacancy. She was sworn in at the October 13, 2008 Council Meeting. Mrs. Colvin will serve out the term of Howard Jones.

The Bessemer City Council met in regular session on September 8, 2008 at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall. Press Release DECLARATION OF STAGE 3 WATER SHORTAGE MANDATORY WATER CONSERVATION On Monday August 11, 2008, the City Manager of Bessemer City issued a Declaration of Stage III Water Shortage for the City of Bessemer City. Because of the recent high temperatures and lack of significant rain, City Manager, Allan Farris, has initiated Stage 3 Water Shortage Guidelines. According to section 52.34 of the Bessemer City Code of Ordinances, Stage 3 Guidelines, the following restrictions shall apply. In addition to the Stage I voluntary & II guidelines already in effect, it shall be unlawful to use water supplied by the city water system in the following manner: § 52.34 STAGE III WATER SHORTAGE CONDITIONS; RESTRICTIONS.
