The Bessemer City Council met in regular session on August 9, 2010 at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall. Members Present Mayor Bob Hovis; Council Members: Dan Boling, Joe Will, Melanie Colvin, Becky Smith and Donnie Griffin.  Council Member Kay McCathen was absent.  City Manager Allan Farris and Attorney David Smith were also present. Call to Order, Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance Mayor Hovis called the meeting to order and opened with prayer.  He then led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Adjustment & Approval of August Agenda Upon motion by Becky Smith and unanimous vote, the August Agenda was approved with the following amendment:  Amendment to the Boy and Girls Club Lease Agreement. Special Presentations American Red Cross Awards: Cynthia Stitt of the American Red Cross was assisted by Mayor Hovis in presenting a Life Saving Award to Bessemer City Lifeguard Matthew Carpenter and Certificates of Recognition to Joseph Franklin and Deborah Inman.  These awards ...

American Red Cross Awards – Cynthia Stitt and Ann Holt of the American Red Cross will present a Life Saving Award to Matthew Carpenter and Certificates of Recognition to Joseph Franklin, Perry Miller and Deborah Inman.  These awards are being presented in regard to the pool incident on June 6, 2010 that involved life saving actions for three year old Na’yasha Corry of Bessemer City.  Mayor Hovis will assist in the presentations. The Bessemer City Council met in regular session on July 12, 2010 at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall. May 10, 2010 The Bessemer City Council met in regular session on May 10, 2010 at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall. The Bessemer City Council met in special session on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 8:30 AM at City Hall.  Proper notice was given. Purpose of the meeting was to hold a budget workshop. Members present: Mayor Bob Hovis; Council members: Dan Boling, Kay McCathen, Donnie Griffin, Becky Smith, Joe Will and Melanie Colvin. Staff members present were City Manager Allan Farris; Department Heads:  Janice Costner, Donna Lumsden, Jo D Franklin, Jamie Ramsey, Kevin Krouse and Lee Hayes. Mayor Hovis called the meeting to order, making opening comments on the current state of the City finances.  He reported on information pertaining to the issuance of bonds for all work discussed during the Council Retreat.
